About the Role

Our client is a well-known NSW State government agency who manage and advocate for Sydney's parklands to ensure they are safe, accessible, and inclusive for everyone. They are currently seeking an experienced Senior Urban Design Manager/Project Manager to come in and join their team in Parramatta on a contract basis until 24th April 2026.

Candidates for this role must have experience at a senior level in project investigations and planning, specifying works, tendering projects, assessing tenders, managing consultants and contractors, developing, and implementing project management plans, budget management and commissioning project works.

Experience as a designer in the design and documentation of projects, in a relevant design discipline (including graphic skills) is highly desirable.

The role is responsible for the design and delivery of context specific projects which involve architecture, landscape architecture, active transport, urban design, environment, civil engineering, and heritage. Projects range from strategic master planning to detailed documentation and construction across a broad spectrum of Parklands with diverse community, cultural heritage, and environmental needs. This role will be responsible for managing projects across the project lifecycle from project ideation to completion, with a focus on design management and client-side project management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Project Initiation and Procurement: Develop projects from ideation to detailed briefs and manage the procurement of consultants and contractors following government policies.
  • Project Management and Delivery: Manage, monitor, and deliver projects to meet agreed objectives, designs, budgets, programs, and risk parameters.
  • Stakeholder Approvals and Coordination: Obtain all necessary approvals by engaging with stakeholders, government agencies, and utility providers.
  • Design Advocacy and Quality: Advocate for high-quality design outcomes throughout project delivery and when advising other project teams.
  • Team and Governance Management: Manage project teams and ensure strict compliance with internal governance and quality requirements to achieve milestones.
  • Relationship and Community Engagement: Foster and manage relationships with community members, interest groups, stakeholders, and internal staff to ensure coordinated project development and delivery.
  • Communication, Advice, and Continuous Improvement: Provide timely advice and information to stakeholders on emerging issues, and contribute to organisational improvements, risk management, and safety standards.

About You

You will be an experienced Design & Project Manager with proven experience and reliability in previous roles.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience at a senior level in project investigations and planning, specifying works, tendering projects, assessing tenders, managing consultants and contractors, developing, and implementing project management plans, budget management and commissioning project works.
  • Experience as a designer in the design and documentation of projects, in a relevant design discipline (including graphic skills) is highly desirable.
  • Tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Project Management, Urban Design and/or Civil Engineering.
  • Current Australian driver’s license and ability to travel to and attend work at any site within the GSP portfolio
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required
